Because all my cats are primarily pets, the number of cats used for breeding is limited in my house. I do not want to overpopulate my home, because I'm afraid that would put unnecessary strain on my neutered cats. I hope this will help me to maintain good relationships between my cats. Nothing is sure but I'm trying.
I'm very grateful to all big catteries for the work they do and for working with me, but I will stay small and try to make the best choices for me and my cats, and at the same time hopefully benefit the Abyssinian breed this way.
From time to time I will use a foster home for a cat if it is necessary and I have a reliable home waiting for a cat and interested in being involved in my breeding program. These homes are usually interested in following first hand the development of the queen into a mother and the kittens' birth and development, but do not necessarily want to start a breeding program of their own. Since the queen grows up in the foster home, has her litters there and stays with the same family as a pet after her breeding career, foster placement is a good choice when necessary.
Fostering is commonly used in breeding in Finland and it is done to ensure the welfare of the cats living in a single home - not to enable a wider breeding program with more litters. I use foster homes very modestly and at the moment I have no cats placed at a foster home.
If I place a cat in a foster home, the cat is listed on this website along with the other breeding cats, but with a mention of the placement in its information.
Some of the male kittens are sold to new homes with an agreement to see how the cat develops and if it would be suitable for breeding. This way I try to give something back to other breeders. The males will have only limited use and I will usually give first priority to breeders I have previously worked with. If you want to know more about the males, please write to me via e-mail.
